Background
Jonathan S. Ross is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Joseph F. Rice School of Law at the University of South Carolina. His teaching and research focus on criminal procedure and federal criminal law.
Before coming to the law school, Ross spent a decade with the Department of Justice, first as an Assistant United States Attorney and later as interim United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama. As a federal prosecutor, Ross focused primarily on fraud, corruption, and health care cases. Following his government service, Ross worked in private practice primarily conducting internal investigations and advising clients responding to government enforcement actions. Early in his career, Ross served as a law clerk, first to Judge James C. Dever, III of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina and then to Judge Frank M. Hull of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Ross obtained a juris doctor, magna cum laude, from the Duke University School of Law. He received a bachelor of arts in political science and religious studies, magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina, graduating with honors from the South Carolina Honors College.
