Background

Kelsey I. M. Chapates (she/her) is a Lecturer for the Center for Business Communication (CBC) at the University of South Carolina Darla Moore School of Business where she teaches professional communication. Prior to joining the CBC, she was an instructor for the English department where she taught courses on critical reading, rhetoric and composition, and business writing. Kelsey also served as Assistant Director for the First-Year English Program. Her research interests include rhetorical theory, rhetoric of science, environmental rhetoric, and feminist rhetorics.

Kelsey previously worked for nonprofits and in higher education as a marketing and communications professional. She is currently a Rhetoric and Composition doctoral candidate for the English Language and Literature Department at the University of South Carolina. Kelsey holds an M.A. in Mass Communication from Stephen F. Austin State University, where she focused on political media and the history of mass communication. She also holds a B.A. in Philosophy and English Literature from Texas A&M University and a minor in Religious Studies. During this time, she focused on Jewish Philosophy and narrative studies.
