Considerations for Participation
If you are a faculty member or academic staff representative, please consider the following items as you evaluate whether a transfer partnership is a good fit for your department.
Students from partner institutions who meet the University of South Carolina’s admission requirements, both for the University and for their intended academic major, and who apply by the stated deadlines are guaranteed admission to continue their degree program at USC.
Participation in a transfer track will hold prospective students at the partner institution to a two-year academic map. If your curriculum is subject to frequent changes, how will your advisors and department manage exceptions to degree completion for these students?
- Review your student support services available to both prospective and newly enrolled transfer students.
- Identify the number of students currently enrolled who are transfer students from proposed partner institution, their USC GPAs, total college credits attempted compared to your freshman students.
- Does your college provide equitable access to financial aid for new transfer students compared to freshman students?
- Are there other types of student supports needed to assist new transfer students as they enter a new University campus culture at USC?
- Establish a faculty and/or staff contact to initiate, manage, and approve the transfer track with partner institution.
- Determine who within your college or department will be responsible for monitoring transfer student progress.
Requirements for Participation
Please review the following required items as you evaluate whether a transfer partnership is an option for your department.
The program must accept approved courses taught at proposed partner institution. To the extent feasible, courses accepted for transfer credit should be equivalent to the first two years of USC curriculum for the bachelor’s degree program.
Transfer pathways identifying course equivalencies must be approved by (with signatures) the proposed partner institution Provost, USC Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and the Dean of the USC College/School and Chair of the academic unit offering the corresponding bachelor’s degree program or their designee. Signed copies of the transfer pathways included in this agreement must be submitted to and will be maintained by the Office of Academic Programs.
All courses offered at partner institution included in the pathway must be reviewed annually.
For each program included in this agreement, the respective academic units will meet at least every two years to review the transfer pathway. Each institution also agreed to notify the other when any changes are made to programs so that transfer pathways can be revised as needed.
USC shall assist with the advisement process by informing partner institution of curriculum changes and providing current major maps. Each institution agrees to provide participating students with relevant, current, and sound academic advice for completing the associate’s degree at partner institution and the bachelor’s degree program at USC in a timely manner.
