Renewal decisions are based on two additional criteria:
- Participation in advanced faculty development activities
- Satisfactory student evaluations
How Do I Apply?
Application Process
We are now accepting applications for fall 2027.
Please submit the New Instructor Application, which will include your current resume and cover letter. Your cover letter should address the reason for your interest, fit for working with first-year students, and any relevant teaching or facilitation experience. If your highest degree is a bachelor’s, please use your cover letter to explain how working directly with students is a key part of your current role.
Please have a conversation with your supervisor about your interest in University 101 as their approval is required for applying. Once you submit your application, your supervisor will receive a form to either approve or deny your application. Your application will not be reviewed until your supervisor completes the form.

Please note that students with graduate assistantships of more than 10 hours are not eligible for this position. This position is also not open to incoming students - eligible candidates must have completed at least one year of coursework on campus at USC.
After Applying
Competitive applicants will be invited to meet with the Associate Director for Faculty
Development and Resources for University 101 Programs to discuss the opportunity to
teach the course, preferences regarding workshop dates, and next steps in the process.
