Become a U101 Peer Leader

University 101 peer leaders are exceptional juniors or seniors who are chosen to serve as a co-instructor in a University 101 class.

Application Timeline for New Fall 2027 Peer Leaders:

  • September 14, 2026 - Application becomes available
  • October 19, 2026 - Early Decision/Study Abroad Application Deadline
  • November 5-10, 2026 - Early Decision/Study Abroad Interviews
  • January 17, 2027 - Final Application Deadline
  • February 1-5, 2027 -  Regular Decision Interviews

Requirements: 

  • Junior or above standing during the semester they serve (by year, not by credits)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and involvement in other substantive areas of university life

A University 101 Peer Leader Is:

  • An active and involved member of the Carolina community
  • Confident in their ability to lead others
  • Dedicated to helping others succeed
  • Appropriately assertive
  • Able to think on their feet
  • Able to speak in front of a classroom of peers
  • Comfortable leading difficult conversations 
  • Proud to be a student at the University of South Carolina
  • A model of the Carolinian Creed
