New Faculty Q&A: J'haria Dallas, Ph.D., N.C.C.

Tell us a bit about yourself:

I’m originally from Columbus; GA and I recently completed my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Georgia. Before joining academia, I worked as a professional school counselor and clinician, supporting children, adolescents, and families in both school and private practice settings.

What will you be doing as a faculty member?

As a faculty member, I will be teaching master’s-level counseling courses, supervising clinical experiences, and contributing to program development. I’m also looking forward to working with my amazing colleagues, mentoring students, engaging in community partnerships, and supporting the professional growth of future counselors.

What is your area of research expertise?

My research focuses on family-school partnerships in Title-1 schools, particularly how school counselors build and sustain relationships with families from historically marginalized communities. I’m passionate about mental health, equity in education, and preparing future counselors to be reflective and socially just practitioners.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, exploring new restaurants, traveling, and staying active through Pilates and cycling. I also enjoy watching college sports, cooking, and going to watch (Marvel) movies.

What are you currently reading, watching, or listening to?

I’m currently reading All About Love by Bell Hooks.

What is your advice for current students?

Be open to the process and give yourself permission to grow. Ask questions, make mistakes, and lean into feedback. Most importantly, take care of your mental and emotional well-being who you are is just as important as what you do.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
