Background
Wendy Addington joined the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management in August 2025 as interim internship director and clinical instructor in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. She brings to the role a wealth of experience in hospitality education, event coordination and military service, with a proven record of preparing students for professional success.
In her position, Addington oversees the internship program for hospitality and tourism management students, helping them navigate placement opportunities and develop critical career skills. She also teaches a range of undergraduate courses, including the Marnie Pearce Professionalism Seminar, where she emphasizes active learning, communication, and leadership development. Her approach combines industry knowledge with a student-focused teaching style that prepares graduates for the challenges of today’s competitive hospitality field.
Before becoming a clinical instructor, Addington served as a teaching associate for the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. In that role, she supported classroom instruction, coordinated course logistics, and engaged students through simulations, tastings and review sessions. She also gained extensive service and leadership experience supporting major college events such as the HTMT Career Fair, Whiskies Around the World and the Beverage Forum.
Addington’s background also includes distinguished service in the United States Air Force, where she held roles as an avionics technician, services manager and EMT/pharmacy technician. She managed lodging operations for military personnel around the world and provided emergency medical and pharmaceutical support in demanding environments. Additionally, she has hospitality industry experience at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott, where she worked in front desk and night audit operations.
A two-time graduate of the University of South Carolina, Addington earned a master’s degree in international hospitality and tourism management and a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies in services management. She also holds associate degrees in arts and science from Midlands Technical College. Her academic achievements are underscored by multiple certifications in hospitality, safety and professional development, complementing her leadership as both an educator and mentor.
