Learn current materials, methods, and trends in teaching popular music pedagogies (PMP) for upper elementary/middle-school level. Gain practical experience with concurrent USC Modern Band Camp participants. We will complete the week with fun performances at USC Greene St. Jazz Church and a local venue!
Three graduate credits (MUSC 554 and MUSC 584) are available. Non-degree-seeking participants can also choose to attend this workshop.

Special Feature: Rock/Pop Camp
A concurrent rock/pop camp for rising fourth through seventh graders is also offered. Campers will learn the basics of keyboard, drum kit, bass, and vocals, as well as how to perform cover songs and write songs.

About the Presenter
Dr. Dockan teaches courses in elementary music methods, commercial techniques, and
teaching music in diverse settings. He facilitates modern band, popular music, Orff
Schulwerk workshops worldwide, is one of Yamaha’s 2026 “40 Under 40” music educators,
and is part of the Music Will team.
