Music For the Public Good

The USC School of Music is proud of our Public Music Initiative. Our students and faculty engage in curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular public education and music outreach activities.

An objective of the USC School of Music is the preparation of musicians as educators and educators as musicians. Additionally, our Music for Your Life programs connect students and faculty with members of our community of many ages and backgrounds who are seeking to deepen their knowledge of and love for music.

USC String Project offers classes for beginners of all ages.

Community & Student Engagement

Our students and faculty engage in curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular public education and outreach. Short-term projects with community partners offer additional opportunities to address community needs through music.

Community Engagement Minor

Designed specifically for students interested in creating positive social change through music, the USC School of Music offers a minor in Community Engagement.

Featured Project: Lullaby Project

Although concrete and steel bars separate babies and new mothers at Camille Graham Correctional Institution, USC School of Music students and faculty used music as a tool to connect families across those barriers through The Lullaby Project, an initiative of Carnegie Hall and its Weill Music Institute.
